Honda e is in the top rank in evolution of cars.

 It’s the Urban EV Concept that came a legend, the legend that came a prototype and the prototype that came the diminutive, most desirable auto since the Suzuki Jimny. It’s the Honda e, Honda’s first mass- request, pure- electric auto( yes, Honda dabbled with the EV Plus in 1997, but only around 350 of those were ever erected), and we want one. 

 Honda easily is n’t going Tesla chasing with this one, the confines are Fiat 500- plus-a-bit, wider than a Jazz but actually narrower when you take into account it has no sect glasses. This is veritably much an civic elusion. A range of 137- long hauls means you wo n’t want to transgress too far from city, but a choice of 134bhp and 152bhp performances, both with decent performance especially up to 30mph, a lattice that’s been shown some of Honda’s running love and a configurable driving experience mean it’s not out of its depth if you fancy a ‘ proper ’ drive and have the battery to spare.

And those both include the£,500 government entitlement. So, to justify prices that outdo the much larger VW ID3, Honda has n’t held back with the technology. 

 As standard you get cameras for sect glasses and the hinder view glass, 100kw DC rapid-fire charging capability in 30 mins, an app topre-condition the auto and babysit it while it charges, numerous crash avoidance systems( including bus retardation, adaptive voyage, lane keep help, bus high- ray headlights) and several acres of screen. And all this wrapped in a subtly antique colour and material pallet designed to chime with the cocky surface – available in white, black, slate, blue and highlighter unheroic makeup. 

 The Honda e arrives riding a surge of new small, affordable EVs, at last broadening the choice beyond the longer- range, but more ultraexpensive and precious stuff like Teslas, the Jaguar I- Pace and Audie-tron. Honda is over against the new Peugeote-208( and its family auto the Corsa- e), the Mini Electric, Fiat 500 Electric and the Renault Zoe and banking on guests seeing past its chunky price and skinny range, and buying with their hearts not their heads.

Far be it for Top Gear not to recommend the most important model available, but then we ’d be inclined to go for the entry position auto. Not only are the performance earnings negligible, but so much of the tackle – the interior defenses, the sect glasses, the seat trim – is standard that we ’d save the£2.5 k, do without the hinder- view display, parking help( actually, how crap is your parking if you ca n’t safely navigate a auto this size into a gap?) and sound system upgrade. 

 Whichever interpretation you pick, the Honda e has two rather striking downsides – the limited range and chunky price label. Honda is rolling the bones then, that guests will get what I ’m going to call ‘ Suzuki Jimny Syndrome ’ and fall so deeply in love with the auto that they ’ll see past its risks. In fairness, Honda is n’t flinching down from the 137- afar range – calling it a conscious decision to spend plutocrat on the tech and only fitting it with a battery suited to a auto of this size. As one mastermind eloquently put it “ If you want to make an iPhone, why would you design an iPad just to get a bigger battery in there? ” 

Truth is, we all want lesser range from our EVs but let’s be realistic, do we need it? Would we rather pay the same plutocrat for a auto that’s less instigative, less well equipped, but with another 50 long hauls of range? No, I presumably would n’t. It’s an civic auto, you need to plan to use it as similar, and if you did need to get nearly 300 long hauls down in a hurry also you either need to rent commodity suitable or treat that trip like the anomaly it's and plan a two stop rapid-fire- charge strategy.
